Surrey hills, Saturday 22nd November

Finally got out for a decent group ride yesterday, with a few of the lads from the Bikeradar forums. Got a good night’s sleep on Friday, on top of a quality brown ride and sweet potato feeding.

My plan to catch the train to meet the lads at Richmond Park was scuppered by Transport for London’s excellent Overground service (it was knackered again yesterday, typical), so a last minute bundling of the bike into the car saw me still managing to turn up on time.

I felt cheery, despite the near freezing temperature, and had a great ride out that I was glad I’d made the effort to get out of bed for. Can’t beat riding around Leith Hill on a fresh, sunny, Sunday morning looking out over the South Downs I say.

Just the one puncture – for Rich, poor lad – was fixed fairly swiftly and we carried out [sitting in James' slipstream :) ].

Managed to do Box Hill in 8:55, must try harder :) All in all, a great route though and a great winter ride out.

The route and stats.

Pondering other Sportives to do for 2009

I quite fancy bagging one or two more Sportives in mainland Europe in 2009. I’m already signed up to do L’Etape, so I’m looking for ideas.

Just found these pair, that look tasty:

Gran Fondo Marco Pantani
Time Megève Mont-Blanc

Both take in some killer climbs – GF Marco Pantani, for example, takes in the Gavia and the Mortirolo (which I’ve read some nasty stuff about. Average of 13% for starters, 18% sections, and an overall average of 10%. Eeek!).

Still, plenty of time to decide. I should get out on the bike.
